The Road Safety Club of St.Joseph’s remained in the lime light of media in the academic year 2012-2013.Their main areas of ventures include Educating their peers and public regarding the road safety rules. The members observed the Road Safety week from, January 1 to 7 with weeklong activities. From conducting awareness programmes, helping the traffic control near the school, the club members brought in various activities which received much appreciation. The club members moved a memorandum to the Chief Minister demanding the need for implementation of road safety norms. The letter gave a detailed report about places where such norms were violated along with a number of photographs, which clearly showed people violating road safety rules. The road safety week programmes began with a press meet organized by the school Road Safety Club members headed by A R Sharath and Krishna Ram. The Club lauds Sharath A.R and Krishna Ram for their appreciable performance in the press meet. An inter-school quiz on ‘Road Safety Rules and Signs’, was held. The competition saw the participation of four leading schools from the District – Loyola School, St. Joseph’s HSS, Holy Angels GHSS and St. Mary’s HSS. The team from St. Joseph’s HSS emerged the winners and Loyola School bagged the second spot. Heartfelt thanks to Mr. John Zacharia, the Quiz Master for making this event a great success. A seminar on ‘Road Safety awareness’, was held on January 4 by Thiruvananthapuram Road Development Company Limited project director Mr.Anilkumar Pandala which was chaired by our school Headmaster Mr. P A Sebastian. The road safety club of St. Joseph’sassociated with Toonz Animation Academy made traffic animations along with road safety messages which was telecasted in the leading channels. The club members provided road safety instructions to road users and also marked white lines on road humps. Around 10 students were involved in painting the humps at Pattoor – Moolavilakam-Thampuranmukku road. The members and the office-bearers of the Pattoor Residents Association appreciated the students and presented them with gifts. The members dedicate a few hours in the morning before school time and in the evening after school hours to maintain the traffic at General Hospital Junction. The members conducted an awareness drive by holding placards on road safety messages and distributing leaflets depicting safety means to the motorists. Kudos to the Convenor, AbatisThokalath Sunny (10 E), Joint Conveners, Siyad Mohammed (10 E) and Rejin Raj(10 B) and all other club members for their dedicated service..
